The Pittsburgh Pirates reinstated designated hitter Andrew McCutchen from the 10-day injured list (left knee inflammation) ahead of Friday’s series opener in Cleveland vs. the Guardians.

McCutchen last played Aug. 16 and has appeared in 101 games on the year.

The 37-year-old is hitting .235 with 16 home runs and 40 RBIs, serving primarily as the Pirates’ leadoff hitter and designated hitter.

He leads the Pirates in walks (51), is fourth in home runs and RBIs, while his on-base percentage (.336) is second and OPS (.741) is third.

In his absence, Isiah Kiner-Falefa had led off for 12 straight games dating back to Aug. 17.

Filling in at designated hitter had been Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds and Joey Bart.

Additionally, the Pirates placed right-handed pitcher Ben Heller on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation in his throwing arm.

Heller, 33, is 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA this season over eight appearances and 12 innings with the Pirates.

Fellow righty reliever Daulton Jefferies, currently on the 60-day injured list due to elbow discomfort, will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis.
