The Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday recalled infielder Rodolfo Castro from Indianapolis and optioned outfielder Cal Mitchell to their Triple-A affiliate.
Castro, 23, adds another switch hitter who can play three infield positions to a lefty-heavy lineup. He batted .197 (14 for 71) in 23 games with the Pirates before his demotion but is coming off a strong July where he slashed .284/.341/.481 with four doubles, four home runs and eight RBIs in 20 games.Castro has continued his hot hitting this month, slashing .308/.357/.538 in six games.
Mitchell, 23, was batting .222 (12 for 54) with one double, two homers and six RBIs in 18 games for the Pirates since being recalled in mid-July. He’s slashing .204/.241/.336 with six doubles, four homers and 13 RBIs in 44 games this season.
