Pirates promote Tanner Anderson, option Roansy Contreras to Indianapolis

Tanner Anderson made his major league debut with the Pirates in 2018.

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected the contract of right-hander Tanner Anderson from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday and optioned rookie right Roansy Contreras to the same club.

Anderson was in uniform for the game against the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park and available to pitch out of the bullpen.

The Pirates signed Anderson on July 5 as a free agent after he was released by the Oakland Athletics. He went 2-4 with a 4.17 ERA in 17 games (four starts) for Indianapolis.

Anderson, 28, most recently pitched Sept. 15 against St. Paul and allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Anderson made his major league debut with the Pirates in 2018.

Contreras made his big league debut Wednesday night when he started against the Cubs. The 21-year-old pitched three scoreless innings.

To open a spot on the 40-man roster, left-hander Dillon Peters has been was transferred from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL.
