Pirates players buy 400 pizzas for Allegheny General Hospital workers

With Jameson Taillon throwing the first pitch, Pittsburgh Pirates players bought lunch Monday for health care providers at Allegheny General Hospital.

Taillon reached out last week to Pirates officials, who coordinated with Slice on Broadway, located in PNC Park, and Pizzeria Davide on Penn Avenue.

The players purchased 300 pizzas from Slice on Broadway and 100 pizzas and 10 large trays of pasta from Pizzeria Davide.

Pirates employees started making deliveries at 11 a.m., dropping off the food at the AGH doorstep where hospital staff picked it up and oversaw the serving operation.

“Their goal was to do something to support small businesses in our area, as well as say thank you to the frontline health care providers at AGH,” said Brian Warecki, the Pirates’ vice president of communication and broadcasting.
