In addition to their acquisitions at Tuesday’s trade deadline, the Pittsburgh Pirates made a series of roster moves involving their pitching staff.
Right-handed reliever Carmen Mlodzinski was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. The Pirates selected the contract of righty Jake Woodford from Triple-A Indianapolis and added him and newly acquired lefty reliever Jalen Beeks to the active roster.
Mlodzinski is 2-4 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 34 innings over 20 appearances, including three starts as an opener. The 27-year-old Woodford was signed to a minor-league contract June 10, three days after being designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder was 1-2 with a 2.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, 37 strikeouts and five walks in 35 1/3 innings over seven starts at Indianapolis.
To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed reliever Daulton Jefferies was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL, and righty reliever Ryder Ryan was designated for assignment.
