Pirates place Keone Kela on 10-day injured list
Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Keone Kela, who was shut down after Sept. 3 last year due to a heavy workload, was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation.
The move is retroactive to Monday, but Kela won’t be eligible to pitch — if he’s clear medically — until after the Pirates play seven games in St. Louis and Arizona.
Kela, who is the 18th Pirates player placed on the injured list since late March, has worked only 11 2/3 innings this season, compiling a 1-0 record with a 4.63 ERA. He has allowed 11 hits (three home runs). four walks and six runs.
The Pirates will name a replacement for Kela before they play the Cardinals on Thursday night.
Also, outfielder J.B. Shuck cleared waivers and was sent to Triple-A Indianapolis.
