Pirates place Francisco Cervelli on injured list, recall Jose Osuna, Jacob Stallings
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed catcher Francisco Cervelli on the seven-day concussion injured list Sunday.
The 33-year-old Cervelli, who has a history of concussions, was struck in the mask on Joc Pederson’s backswing in the Pirates’ 10-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday night at PNC Park. Cervelli later left the game with concussion-like symptoms.
The Pirates recalled infielder-outfielder Jose Osuna from Triple-A Indianapolis and also selected the contract of catcher Jacob Stallings.
Osuna started the season on the 10-day injured list with lower neck discomfort. He was batting .268 (19 for 71) with seven doubles, a triple, two home runs and 13 RBI in 19 games at Indianapolis.
Stallings made the Opening Day roster but was sent to the 10-day IL with a cervical neck strain on April 21. He was batting .275 (14 for 51) with nine doubles, two homers and seven RBIs in 15 games at Indianapolis.
