Pirates pitcher Bryse Wilson delivers to the Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte during the first inning on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, at PNC Park.

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed catcher Jacob Stallings on the seven-day concussion injured list and transferred right-handed starter Bryse Wilson to the 60-day IL, ending his season.

Wilson strained his left hamstring in the fifth inning of Saturday’s start against the Miami Marlins, a 6-3 win. Acquired from Atlanta at the trade deadline in the Richard Rodriguez trade, the 23-year-old Wilson is 3-7 with a 4.88 ERA in 15 starts this season, including 1-4 with a 4.91 ERA in eight starts for the Pirates.

Wilson is the fourth Pirates starting pitcher whose season has been ended by injury. They have moved Steven Brault, Trevor Cahill and Chase DeJong to the 60-day IL, as well as reliever Duane Underwood Jr.

Now, the Pirates will also be without their starting catcher, the team’s longest-tenured player and one of their clubhouse leaders in Stallings, the team’s nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award. He was slashing .240/.329/.366 with 20 doubles, eight home runs and 53 RBIs in 109 games this season, ranking second on the team in both homers and RBIs. Stallings ended last season on the IL with a concussion.

Michael Perez replaced Stallings in the Pirates’ starting lineup for Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

To replace Stallings on the active 28-man roster, the Pirates selected Taylor Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis. Wilson was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for Davis.

The Pirates acquired Davis, 31, from Baltimore on July 15. Davis, who played 12 games with Triple-A Norfolk before the trade, was batting .241/.338/.319 with two homers and 17 RBIs in 38 games for Indianapolis. He threw out 12 of 34 runners attempting to steal.
