It’s never been easy for the Pittsburgh Pirates to attract people to PNC Park in April and May when the weather is not always appropriate for spectators.

But Pirates officials hope their latest promotion — free admission for anyone 14 and under — helps draw a crowd. The only conditions: One kid’s ticket is free with the purchase of one $20 adult ticket in special sections in the upper grandstand.

The schedule includes Kids Opening Day April 5.

The Pirates also announced an expansion of the concession offerings in the family-focused Bucaroos kids’ area. The concession stand is located inside the Left Field gate, but there will be additional such stands throughout the ballpark.

Each family-centric stand includes hot dogs, popcorn, warm pretzels and Coca-Cola products for $2.50 each, plus nachos and chicken nuggets for $3.
