Pirates' Gregory Polanco promoted to Triple-A for next stage in rehab
After playing four games for the Single-A Bradenton Marauders, Gregory Polanco will shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis, where he is scheduled to play Saturday night against the Charlotte Knights.
Polanco, who had shoulder surgery in September after hitting a career-high 23 home runs for the Pittsburgh Pirates, played four games in Bradenton, recording three putouts with no assists. He was 2 for 13 at the plate, with two singles, an RBI, four walks and two strikeouts. He played two games in right field and was the designated hitter for the other two.
Polanco, relief pitcher Dovydas Neverauskas and catcher Elias Diaz are on 20-day rehab assignments. General manager Neal Huntington said Sunday he expects the players to use all 20 days, but he added, “They can change our mind if they show they’re ready quicker.”
Polanco’s recovery has been going well, Huntington said.
“He’s done everything we’ve asked of him and then some.”
