Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez prepares to pitch against the Phillies Saturday, July 20, 2019, at PNC Park.

Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez was named National League Reliever of the Month after recording three saves and earning three wins in 10 appearances in August.

Vazquez allowed four hits, one walk and struck out 11 in 10 1/3 innings.

It was the first career Reliever of the Month Award for the All-Star closer.

Vazquez has a 1.65 ERA and 24 saves this season.

His 82 career saves are tied with Joel Hanrahan for fifth most in Pirates history.

The Yankees’ Aroldis Chapman was named the American League Reliever of the Month after securing nine saves and 17 strikeouts.
