Pirates farm report for Sept. 20, 2023: Canaan Smith-Njigba homers in Indy slugfest
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 68-76) survived a late rally to beat Rochester (Nationals), 14-11. RHP Aaron Shortridge (1-0, 1.80) went five strong innings, allowing one run on five hits, walked four and struck out three. RHP Thomas Hatch (4.63) gave up two runs on four hits and struck out two in 1.2 innings of relief. RHP Osvaldo Bido (4.23) conceded one run on one hit in 1.1 innings. RHP John O’Reilly (5.73) allowed Rochester to score seven runs in the top of the ninth, including three on a three-run homer, before RHP Travis MacGregor (5.53) shut the door for his third save. LF Canaan Smith-Njigba (.280) continued his torrid stretch with a solo home run, his 15th, and two RBI singles to finish 3 for 5. 2B Nick Gonzales (.284) was also 3 for 5 with a two-run triple and two base hits. DH Joe Perez (.182) crushed a three-run home run and had an RBI single. 3B Josh Bissonette (.204) went 2 for 3 with two RBI singles.
