Pirates farm report for Sept. 13, 2022: David Bednar begins rehab assignment with Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 70-65) struggled in a loss to Toledo (Tigers), 9-1. RHP David Bednar (0-1, 9.00) began a rehab assignment for a back injury and went one inning, allowing one run on one hit and striking out two. RHP Noe Toribio (6.08) went three innings and allowed four runs on four hits with two strikeouts, and RHP John O’Reilly (5.68) allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in two innings. RHPs Austin Brice (5.83) and Eric Hanhold (3.24) each threw a shutout inning and struck out two while RHP Junior Fernandez (5.63) gave up two runs on one hit in his one inning of work. The bats went cold again, only amassing five hits as LF Ji-hwan Bae (.295) went 1 for 4, 1B Mason Martin (.215) went 0 for 4 with a strikeout, and CF Jared Oliva (.264) went 0 for 3. 2B Josh Van Meter (.190) hit two doubles and scored on a groundout by Oliva in the fifth for Indy’s only run.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 68-64) broke a 4-4 tie with a five-run seventh to beat Reading (Phillies), 9-4. C Endy Rodriguez (.365) started the scoring by smacking an RBI double in the bottom of the first and later hit another double in the seventh. CF Connor Scott (.249) hit an RBI double in the fourth, and DH Henry Davis (.208) clubbed a two-run home run in the sixth, his third. SS Liover Peguero (.258) hit an RBI single and Scott struck again with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Matt Eckelman (2.45) went five innings and allowed one run on five hits and struck out three. LHP Dillon Peters (3.60) threw one inning and allowed two runs on two hits on a rehab assignment. RHP Bear Bellomy (1-1, 6.79) allowed one run on two hits and struck out two in two innings to pick up the win. RHP Enmanuel Mejia (5.92) struck out three in the ninth to seal the victory.
