Pirates farm report for Sept. 10, 2021: John Nogowski homers in Indianapolis rout

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 53-58) crushed Louisville (Reds), 12-3. RHP James Marvel (5-6, 5.24) started, allowing a run and walking three to go along with seven strikeouts over six innings. RHP Keury Mella (8.31) and RHP John O’Reilly (4.43) both pitched scoreless innings. 2B Tucupita Marcano (.228), CF Jared Oliva (.270) and 3B Hunter Owen (.225) all had two-hit nights. 1B John Nogowski went 3 for 4, driving in five runs, including three on a home run in the eighth inning.

Next: Saturday at Louisville (Reds), 1:00 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 54-54) lost to Erie (Tigers), 12-5. RHP Travis MacGregor (6.62) started, allowing four runs (three earned), walking three and striking out two in five innings. RHP Brad Case (2-3, 5.58) got the loss, giving up five runs over 3⅓ innings out of the bullpen. RF Cal Mitchell (.287) was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and a walk. DH Jack Suwinski (.254) was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a couple walks. 2B Connor Kaiser (.182) had a 3 for 4 day as well.

Next: Saturday vs. Erie (Tigers), 6:00 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 71-41) got shut out by Jersey Shore (Phillies), 6-0. RHP Valentin Linarez (0-1, 5.40) earned the loss after allowing three runs, issuing a walk and striking out four over his five innings of work. RHP Colin Selby (4.53) worked 1⅔ perfect innings, which included striking out the side in the eighth. Greensboro managed just three singles on the night, one each from SS Liover Peguero (.272), DH Nick Gonzales (.302), and 1B Will Matthiessen (.238).

Next: Saturday at Jersey Shore (Phillies), 7:05 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 68-43) got crushed by Clearwater (Phillies), 18-4. RHP Jared Jones (3-5, 4.50) struggled in his start, allowing five runs in 1⅔ innings. LHP Tyler Samaniego (1.80) delivered the only scoreless outing by a Marauders pitcher, lasting an inning and striking out two. CF Jase Bowen (.229) was 2 for 5 with an RBI double. LF Jack Herman (.273) provided the biggest offensive spark of the night with a first inning three-run home run. SS Dariel Lopez (.257) also had a 2-for-5 night.
