Pirates farm report for May 21, 2021
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 10-5) beat St. Paul (Twins) 6-4 in 10 innings. SS Kevin Kramer hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the 10th and RHP Jandel Gustave held St. Paul scoreless in the bottom of the inning. It was Kramer’s second home run of the season. He went 3 for 4 with four RBIs. CF Chris Sharpe doubled twice. RF Bligh Madris went 2 for 3 with two walks. 1B Christian Bethancourt went 2 for 5 to up his average to .343. C Joe Hudson also had two hits. LF Anthony Alford went 0 for 6 with three strikeouts and left seven on base. He’s hitting .184 in Triple-A. RHP James Marvel allowed one unearned run on three hits, walking three and striking out one in 5 1/3 innings.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 10-5) downed Harrisburg (Nationals), 4-2. 3B Rodolfo Castro went 3 for 4, falling a homer short of the cycle, with an RBI and two runs scored. He’s hitting .310. 1B Brendt Citta hit a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth. He’s hitting .320. LF Daniel Amaral had a pair of base hits. RHP Max Kranick started and went five innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out eight and walking one. LHP Cam Vieaux gave up one run in two innings of relief, earning the win. RHP Hunter Stratton worked a scoreless ninth for this second save. LHP Oddy Nunez also threw a scoreless inning.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 9-7) lost to Hickory (Rangers), 3-0. Grasshoppers 2B Nick Gonzales, the Pirates’ 2020 first-round draft pick, will miss 4 to 6 weeks with a broken bone in his hand. He’s been out since Wednesday. He’s hitting .294 with two home runs and a .917 OPS. Greensboro managed just four hits. 2B Aaron Shackleford singled and reached on a walk. RHP Michael Burrows started and gave up three runs, one earned, in 4 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out three. RHP Alexander Manasa went the rest of the way, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out six and walking none.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 8-8) lost to Lakeland (Tigers), 9-2. CF Hudson Head, a top prospect acquired from San Diego in the Joe Musgrove trade, hit his first home run of the season. He’s hitting .176. C Endy Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with a triple for the Marauders, who were held to six hits. RHP Domingo Gonzalez started and gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits, including two home runs. LHP Luis Ortiz pitched a perfect inning of relief, striking out two.
