Pirates farm report for June 28, 2024: Bubba Chandler strikes out 11 for Altoona

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 33-43) was swept by Rochester (Nationals) in a doubleheader.

In the first game, a 4-3 Indianapolis loss in eight innings, RHP Quinn Priester made a rehab start, allowing two runs on five hits in four innings. LHP Michael Plassmeyer (8.08) followed with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and strking out five. RHP Brent Honeywell (1-3, 4.50) gave up a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to take the loss. C Joey Bart (.357) went 3 for 4. 2B Liover Peguero (.260) went 1 for 3 with a two-run homer, his fifth. DH Joshua Palacios (.267) went 2 for 3 with a run scored.

In the second game, Indianapolis gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh to lose 5-4. DH Seth Beer (.238) went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Peguero (.265) went 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. RHP Jake Woodford (4.43) started and allowed one run on three hits in 5⅓ innings. He struck out eight and walked none. RHP Connor Sadzeck (2-1, 4.38) recorded one out and gave up four runs on two hits and two walks to take the loss.

Next: Friday at Rochester (Nationals), 6:45 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 30-42) beat Akron (Guardians), 6-4. RHP Bubba Chandler started and earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk in 6⅔ innings. He struck out 11. RHP Jack Carey (3.65) got the last two outs for his fifth save. C Carter Bins (.220) went 3 for 4 with his sixth home run. 3B Charles McAdoo (.350) went 1 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored. CF Sammy Siani (.248) went 2 for 4 with a run scored and RBI. SS Tsung-Che Cheng (.224) went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Next: Friday vs. Akron (Guardians), 6 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 43-28) beat Jersey Shore (Phillies), 4-2, in 10 innings. RHP Derek Diamond (3.83) started and allowed one run on four hits in 5⅓ innings. He struck out three and walked none. RBP Brandan Bidois (4.78) followed with 1⅔ scoreless innings, not allowing a hit and striking out five. RHP Elijah Birdsong (4-0, 4.64) pitched two innings to pick up the win. He walked two and didn’t allow a hit. RHP Jaycob Deese (6.56) gave up an unearned run in the 10th and earned the save. The Grasshoppers scored four runs on five hits. SS Jack Brannigan (.223) went 2 for 5. 2B Termarr Johnson (.216) went 1 for 4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. 1B Josiah Sightler (.185) went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Next: Friday at Jersey Shore (Phillies), 7:05 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 34-38) doubled up Clearwater (Phillies), 6-3. RHP Hung-Leng Change (3-5, 3.83) started and allowed one run on four hits in seven innings. He struck out five and walked one. RHP Luigi Hernandez (8.24) gave up two runs on two hits in two innings to pick up the save. SS Keiner Delgado (.252) went 1 for 4 with his fifth homer, a two-run shot, and his 10th stolen base. RF Braylon Bishop (.229) went 1 for 2 with a double, two walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored. 1B Esmerlyn Valdez (.237) went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.
