Pirates farm report for June 17, 2021: Mason Martin goes deep twice in Altoona win

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 21-17) beat Memphis (Cardinals) 3-2 in 11 innings. 3B Wilmer Difo hit the game-winning RBI single in the 11th. He went 1 for 5. LF Anthony Alford went 1 for 4 with an RBI single in the fifth. 2B T.J. Rivera went 2 for 4. 1B Will Craig went 1 for 4 with two strikeouts. He’s hitting .315. RHP Cody Ponce started and went seven innings, giving up six hits and one run with nine strikeouts. RHP Kyle Keller pitched a perfect 11th to get the win. He’s 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA. LHP Austin Davis and RHP Jandel Gustave also pitched a scoreless inning of relief apiece.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 24-14) beat Erie (Tigers), 8-7. 1B Mason Martin went 2 for 5 with two home runs, a solo shot and a two-run blast. A 17th-round draft pick in 2017, Martin is hitting .244 with seven home runs. 2B Rodolfo Castro went 1 for 5 with a three-run home run in the first. He’s hitting .303. RF Cal Mitchell also homered, going 2 for 5. SS Oneil Cruz went 1 for 5 with a triple, two runs scored and his eighth stolen base. 3B Jesus Valdez went 2 for 4. RHP Now Toribio gave up four runs, three earned, in 3.2 innings. LHP Cam Allred pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to improve to 3-0 with a 2.18 ERA. RHP Shea Murray, who had a 1.10 ERA, got the last five outs for his third save.

GREENSBORO (High A, 21-18) lost 5-3 to Winston-Salem (White Sox). LF Fabricio Macias went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple. He’s hitting .310. The Grasshoppers’ runs came on three solo home runs. CF Matthew Fraizer and SS Liover Peguero went back to back to open the game. It was eighth of the season for Fraizer, who is hitting. 329. It was the third for Peguero, who is hitting .267. DH Lolo Sanchez hit his seventh in the fourth inning. RHP Tahnaj Thomas started and gave up two runs in three innings. He walked three and struck out three. RHP Garrett Leonard gave up a two-run home run to take the loss.
