Pirates farm report for July 12, 2019
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 45-45) fell 9-1 to Columbus (Indians). The Indians gave up all nine runs in the first two innings. RHP Eduardo Vera (5-7, 6.27) took the loss after allowing nine runs in 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, a walk and nine hits surrendered. SS Cole Tucker (.287) knocked in the lone Indianapolis run. DH Gregory Polanco (.250) went 1 for 3 with a double.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 48-39) shut out Erie (Tigers), 1-0, despite being held to just three hits. DH Logan Hill (.272 with Altoona) hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for the game’s only score. LHP Brandeon Waddell (2-1, 1.44 with Altoona) threw six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, a walk and five hits allowed to earn the victory. RHP Matt Eckelman (1-2, 3.69) earned his 17th save this season.

BRADENTON (High-A, 48-42) lost 8-4 to Fort Myers (Twins). The Marauders gave up eight unanswered runs after scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning. Bradenton scored on a RBI single from SS Oneil Cruz (.284), followed by a three-run home run from 1B Mason Martin (.125 with Bradenton). CF Travis Swaggerty (.249) doubled and scored a run. RHP Brad Case (2-2, 3.50 with Bradenton) was dealt the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits, including two home runs, with four strikeouts and two walks in a six-inning outing.

GREENSBORO (Low-A, 56-34) lost 9-7 to West Virginia (Mariners). The Grasshoppers had five batters with at least two hits. LF Jack Herman (.240) and 1B Luke Mangieri (.222 with Greensboro) each hit solo home runs. Each finished with two hits while Herman scored three times and stole two bases. DH Justin Harrer (.212) went 2 for 5 with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored. CF Fabricio Macias (.276) was 3 for 5 with a run and a stolen base. RHP Cristofer Melendez (2-1, 4.97) recorded the loss and blew a save opportunity after giving up four runs in 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout, two walks and three hits allowed. RHP Osvaldo Bido (10-5, 3.67) did not record a decision after giving up three runs in 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, two walks and five hits.

WEST VIRGINIA (Short season-A, 15-12) split a doubleheader with Aberdeen (Orioles). The Black Bears took Game 1, 3-1, and were shut out 4-0 in the second game.
In Game 1, 3B Jared Triolo (.240) hit a first-inning, two-run double to give West Virginia the early 2-0 advantage. DH Blake Sabol (.246) homered in the sixth inning on a solo shot and finished with two runs. RHP Grant Ford (2-0, 5.59) picked up the win after throwing two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts, two walks and two hits allowed. Four Black Bears pitchers were used with no one lasting more than three innings. RHP Garrett Leonard (1-0, 2.08) recorded his third save this season.
SS Ethan Paul (.250) and CF Brett Kinneman (.188 with West Virginia) doubled for West Virginia’s only extra-base hits in Game 2. RHP Noe Toribio (0-1, 3.60) allowed three earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings in defeat.

WASHINGTON (Frontier League, 21-31) lost 8-7 to Schaumburg. 3B Cody Erickson (.321) collected one hit in five at-bats, hitting his eighth double this season and driving in three runs. 1B J.J. Fernandez (.282) went 2 for 4 with a double, a RBI and a run scored, along with a stolen base. LHP B.J. Sabol (1-1, 3.75) was dealt the loss after giving up three runs in 1/3 of an inning with a strikeout, a walk and three hits allowed. LHP Nick Wegmann (3-4, 3.80) threw 5 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks in a no-decision.
