INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 39-42) outslugged Iowa (Cubs), 12-8. CF Anthony Alford (.307) went 4 for 5 with two home runs, his 13th and 14th, and five RBIs. 3B Hunter Owens (.213) also homered twice, running his season total to 12. He went 3 for 4. 2B Michael Chavis (.271) went 1 for 5 with his seventh homer. C Christian Bethancourt (.279) was 1 for 6 with his ninth long ball. SS Cole Tucker (.237) went 2 for 4. RHP James Marvel (4-3, 5.47) went five to earn the win, giving up three runs on four hits and five walks.

Next: Saturday at Iowa (Cubs), 8:08 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 44-36) was swept by Akron (Indians) in a doubleheader, scratching out a total of six hits. 2B Ji-hwan Bae (.267) and 3B Diego Castillo (.27) each went 1 for 3 with a run scored in the opener, a 3-2 Akron win. Bae stole his 13th and 14th base, including a steal of home. RHP Jeffrey Passantino (4.01) started and gave up two runs on six hits in six innings. RHP Will Gardner (2-5. 8.19) gave up a run in the seventh to take the loss.

CF Matthew Fraizer (.333) went 2 for with a double in the second game, a 2-0 Akron victory. Castillo and C Carter Bins (.263) each went 1 for 3. RHP Brad Case (2-2, 4.60) was the hard-luck loser, giving up one run on two hits with five strikeouts in five innings.

Next: Saturday at Akron (Indians), 7:05 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High A, 51-31) rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the 12th inning to score a miraculous 15-14 win over Hickory (Rangers). OF Will Matthiessen (.194) was at the center of the craziness. A 2019 sixth-round pick as an outfielder, Matthiessen was brought in as a relief pitcher as the game stretched to 12 innings. He had never pitched as a pro but was a two-way player at Stanford. He was lit up for six runs, five earned, on four hits and a walk. With two outs in the bottom of the inning and Hickory leading 14-9, 1B Aaron Shackelford (.213) singled, RF Blake Sabol (.315) hit an RBI single and CF Jonah Davis (.167) hit an RBI double to make it 14-11. After a walk by C Grant Koch, Matthiessen hit a 1-2 pitch over the right-field fence for a walk-off grand slam. Matthiessen (1-0, 45.00) got the win.

Next: Saturday vs. Hickory (Rangers), 6:30 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low A, 47-32) knocked down Clearwater (Phillies), 7-3. C Abrahan Gutierrez (.301) went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. 2B Francisco Acuna (.256) went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored. RHP Miguel Yajure, on a rehab assignment as he recovers from a forearm injury, gave up one unearned run on two hits in 1.2 innings. RHP Wandi Montout (3-0, 7.25) gave up one run in 1.1 innings to earn the win. RHP Eddy Yean (5.18) pitched the bulk of the game, giving up one run on four hits in four innings.
