Pirates farm report for Aug. 28, 2024: Termarr Johnson hits 1st Double-A homer in Altoona win

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 62-63) swept a doubleheader from Louisville (Reds), winning both games by a 2-1 score.

In the first game, RHP Bubba Chandler (2-0, 1.17) started and went five innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts. RHP Isaac Mattson (3.14) worked two perfect innings, fanning four, to pick up his second save. SS Liover Peguero (.252) went 1 for 2 with his 13th home run. CF Jack Suwinski (.194) went 1 for 2 with a triple and an RBI. 2B Nick Yorke (.336) went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored. The Indians managed only three hits.

In the second game, 2B Andres Alvarez (.267) went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and RBI. Peguero (.256) went 2 for 2 with double and an RBI. DH Joshua Palacios (.243) went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored. RHP Colin Holderman (6.75) started and pitched a scoreless inning on a rehab assignment, giving up one hit and striking out one. RHP Beau Sulser (5.03) worked four innings, giving up one run on three hits with five strikeouts. LHP Geronimo Franzua (5-6, 4.67) pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with five strikeouts, to earn the win.

Next: Thursday vs. Louisville (Reds), 7:05 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 51-71) doubled up New Hampshire (Blue Jays), 8-4. SS Termarr Johnson (.167) went 1 for 4 and hit a two-run homer, his first in Double-A. RF Jase Bowen (.236) went 1 for 4 with a two-run homer, his seventh. C Eli Wilson (.156) went 1 for 4 with his second home run. LF Tres Gonzalez (.234) went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. RHP Emmanual Chapman (3.21) started and went four innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk with five strikeouts. RHP Brad Case (2-1, 3.30) pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win. RHP Justin Meis (6.56) closed it out with 1⅓ scoreless innings.

Next: Thursday vs. New Hampshire (Blue Jays), 6 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 69-51) beat Rome (Braves), 5-4, in 10 innings. 2B Duce Gourson (.286) went 2 for 5 with the game-winning RBI single in the 10th. LHP Magdiel Cotto (2.25) pitched a scoreless 10th to earn the save. 1B Josiah Sightler (.196) went 1 for 3 with his 14th home run. CF PJ Hilson (.259) went 1 for 4 with a two-run homer, his 12th. RHP JP Massey (5.28) started and went 4⅓ innings, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks. RHP Alessandro Ercolani (6-1, 3.16) worked four scoreless innings, allowing one hit with no walks and four strikeouts, to pick up the win.

Next: Thursday at Rome (Braves), 7 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 52-69) and Tampa (Rays) were rained out. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Thursday.
