Pirates farm report for Aug. 24, 2023: Canaan Smith-Njigba homers twice in Indy victory

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 57-64) defeated Iowa (Cubs), 10-9, when 2B Nick Gonzales was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth. LF Canaan Smith-Njigba (.252) went 2 for 4 with a pair of solo home runs, his 12th and 13th. SS Chris Owings (.235) went 2 for 5 with a double and three RBIs. DH Mason Martin (.286) went 2 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. 3B Jared Triolo (.297) went 1 for 3 with a run scored, two RBIs and two walks. Gonzales (.265) went 1 for 4. All nine Indianapolis players recorded a hit. RHP Beau Sulser (8.59) started and allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. RHP Cody Bolton (2-4, 4.01) gave up two runs on three hits in two innings to record the win.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 55-59) scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th on a squeeze bunt by SS Tsung-Che Cheng and a sacrifice fly by 3B Andres Alvarez to beat Akron (Guardians), 2-1. LHP Jackson Wolf (2.50), making his fourth start since being acquired from the San Diego Padres, started and threw five scoreless, one-hit innings. He walked one and struck out five. RHP Michell Miliano (5.63) and RHP Cameron Junker (3.40) each pitched two scoreless innings. RHP Tahnaj Thomas (4-2, 4.79) gave up two hits in the 10th, allowing the automatic runner to score but picking up the win. 2B Jackson Glenn (.290) went 3 for 5 with a double. CF Matt Fraizer (.259) went 2 for 4 with a triple. Cheng (.279) went 0 for 3 with a walk. Alvarez (.225) went 1 for 4.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 62-52) was tripped up by Rome (Braves), 4-3. CF Tres Gonzalez (.284) went 2 for 5 with his 21st stolen base. 3B Francisco Acuna (.309) went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. DH Josiah Sightler (.263) was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. 2B Termarr Johnson (.200) went 2 for 4 with two walks. RHP Thomas Harrington (2-5, 4.24) started and allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits and two walks in five innings. RHP Eddy Yean (4.91) pitched two scoreless innings of relief and RHP Jack Carey (4.22) worked a scoreless eighth.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 66-50) scored four in the top of the ninth to beat Jupiter (Marlins), 8-5. 1B Geovanny Planchart (.233) went 2 for 4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. 2B Mitch Jebb (.310) went 2 for 4 with a run scored. CF Lonnie White Jr. (.259) went 1 for 2 with a run scored, an RBI, three walks and two stolen bases, his ninth and 10th. DH Charles McAdoo (.362) went 2 for 5 with a run scored. LHP Hunter Barco (7.50) started and allowed one run on two hits in three innings. RHP Jorge Ramos (3.60) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. RHP Darvin Garcia (4-2, 6.70) worked two scoreless innings to earn the win. RHP Patrick Reilly (6.35) pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.
