Pirates farm report for April 9, 2024: Aaron Shackelford homers twice in Altoona walk-off win
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 5-5) lost 6-5 to Toledo (Tigers). LHP Michael Plassmeyer (0-1, 4.50) went five innings and gave up five runs, two walks and two home runs and struck out four in the loss. RHP Chris Gau (9.00) allowed a run and two walks in an inning of relief. Carmen Mlodzinski (0.00) only gave up one hit and struck out one in his inning of work during his rehab assignment (elbow). 3B Nick Gonzales (.390) went 1 for 4 with a two-run double and finished with three RBIs. 2B Ji Hwan Bae (.500) went 2 for 4 with an RBI single and a solo home run in his first game with Indy during his rehab assignment (hip). SS Liover Peguero (.425) went 4 for 5 with three singles and a double.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 2-2) walked off Harrisburg (Nationals), 8-7 in 10 innings. 1B Aaron Shackelford (.235) went 2 for 5 with a three-run homer and a two-run shot. 3B Kervin Pichardo (0.63) drove in the game-winning run with a single. RHP Braxton Ashcraft started and went three innings, allowing four runs on six hits, including two home runs, and fanned three. RHP Justin Meis (7.36) came on in relief and lasted just two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs on four hits and one home run. RHPs Grant Ford (3.00) and Brad Case (0.00) each struck out three and didn’t allow a run in their relief appearances. RHP Isaac Mattson (2-0, 0.00) struck out one in a shutout relief inning for the win. SS Tsung-Che Cheng (.111) went 1 for 2 with three walks and scored two runs. CF Jase Bowen (.118) had an RBI single and finished 1 for 5.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 2-2) was held to two hits in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Winston-Salem (White-Sox). RHP Wilber Dotel (0.00) threw four shutout innings, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out five. LHP Julian Bosnic (0.00) tossed two shutout innings of relief, striking out a pair, and RHP Jaycob Deese (0-1, 6.75) gave up the winning run and two walks in the seventh inning for the loss. LHP Cy Nielson (0.00) threw one shutout inning, giving up a hit and striking out one. 2B Mitch Jebb (.250) went 1-4 with a single and CF Lonnie White Jr. (.200) was 1 for 3 with a triple and a walk for the Grasshoppers’ only hits. SS Termarr Johnson (.143) was 0 for 1 with three walks and a strikeout.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 1-3) only mustered two hits in an 8-1 loss to Lakeland (Tigers). RF Jack Herman (.176) went 1 for 4 with a single and three strikeouts and scored the Marauders’ only run when 3B Javier Rivas (.154) grounded into a double play in the seventh. 1B Omar Alfonzo (.111) had the other hit, a single, and finished 1 for 3 with a strikeout. RHP Carlos Jimenez (0-1, 10.85) allowed two runs, four walks and no hits in 1.2 innings to get the loss. RHP Joaquin Tejada (13.50) also allowed two runs in 1.1 innings, gave up one hit and walked three. RHPs Fineas Del Bonta-Smith (0.00) and Mike Walsh (4.50) each threw a shutout inning of relief. RHP Luigi Hernandez (7.71) gave up two hits, four walks and four runs, two earned, in 2.1 innings.
