Pirates farm report for April 8, 2022: Travis Swaggerty delivers walk-off hit
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 1-2) beat Omaha (Royals), 3-2, on a walk-off single by DH Travis Swaggerty (.231) in the bottom of the ninth. 3B Hunter Owen (.667) walked and CF Ji-hwan Bae (.286) singled before Swaggerty’s heroics. SS Oneil Cruz (.300) went 2 for 4 with a stolen base, his second. RF Cal Mitchell (.385) hit his second home run. RHP Chase De Jong started and gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts in four innings. RHP Cristofer Melendez gave up a run in the top of the ninth to blow a save but earned the win.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 0-1) lost 9-6 to Harrisburg (Washington). Harrisburg jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after four innings and the Curve chipped away with two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. Harrisburg tallied two more in their half of the sixth and the Curve answered with two in the bottom half, but it just wasn’t enough. CF Matt Frazier went 1 for 4 with a two-run home run and SS Liover Peguero went 1 for 3 with a two-run homer as well. RHP Carmen Mlodzinski went 3.2 innings and allowed five runs on five hits, walked one, struck out three and gave up a home run in a loss.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 0-1) was routed 16-6 by Rome (Braves) in its season opener. RHP Adrian Florencio started and gave up three runs on three hits and three walks in 1.2 innings. RHP Eddy Yean was touched up for five runs on four hits and three walks in two innings. C Henry Davis went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. SS Maikol Escotto homered. LF Endy Rodriguez went 1 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 0-1) lost 8-4 to Dunedin (Toronto). The Marauders got behind by six runs after the fourth and chipped away in the fifth and the ninth but could not overcome the early hole. 2B Brenden Dixon went 1 for 3 with a double, DH Juan Jerez went 1 for 3 with a double and drove in two runs. LF Rodolfo Nolasco went 1 for 4 with a triple and an RBI and CF Jase Bowen singled and drove in a run. RHP Justin Meis (Bethel Park) got the start and went 3.1 innings, allowed seven hits, six earned runs, a walk and two home runs and got the loss.
