Pirates farm report for April 19, 2024: Nick Gonzales, Ji Hwan Bae spark Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 10-9) defeated St. Paul (Twins), 7-2. SS Nick Gonzales (.387) went 2 for 5 with an RBI double and a base hit. 3B Malcom Nunez (.317) was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI single. CF Ji Hwan Bae (.476) was 1 for 3 with a single, a walk and two runs scored. C Grant Koch (.174) was 1 for 3 with a single and two RBIs. DH Yasmani Grandal (.125) was 1 for 3 with a single in his third rehab start. RHP Wily Peralta (7.15) allowed only a solo home run and struck out three in three innings. LHP Nick Dombkowski (2.25) allowed one run on four hits, walked four and fanned two in four innings. LHP Brady Feigl (2-1, 3.12) struck out four in two shutout innings of relief for the win.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 5-7) lost 5-4 in 10 innings to Bowie (Orioles). CF Matt Frazier (.205) led off the game with a solo home run, his first, and finished 1 for 5 with two runs scored. 2B Kervin Pichardo (1.71) was 2 for 4 with an RBI double and an RBI single. 1B Aaron Shackelford (.237) gave the Curve a 4-3 lead in the top of the 10th with an RBI double. Shackelford also had a walk and a single to finish 2 for 4. RHP Brad Case (0-1, 4.32) gave up a game-tying single and then a walk-off single in the 10th for the loss. Case went 1⅓ innings, allowing two runs (one unearned) on three hits and struck out one. Starting RHP Sean Sullivan (3.55) went five shutout innings, allowing six hits and fanning one. RHP Jack Carey (16.20) went 1⅔ innings, giving up three runs on three hits, walked two and struck out four. RHP Grant Ford (6.00) didn’t allow a hit or a run in 1.1 innings of relief.

Next: Saturday at Bowie (Orioles), 6:35 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 8-5) lost 5-3 to Hickory (Rangers). RHP J.P. Massey (1-1, 4.00) yielded four unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning after 3B Jack Brannigan had a fielding error and suffered the loss. Massey also walked three and struck out two. LHP Julian Bosnic (1.17) struck out three, walked one and gave up three hits in 3⅓ innings. RHP Brandan Bidois (1.59) pitched 1⅔ shutout innings, and LHP Cy Nielson (2.57) struck out four in 2⅓ shutout innings. RHP Maikol Escotto (9.00) allowed a run in the ninth. 2B Termarr Johnson (.190) mashed a two-run triple and scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. Johnson finished 1 for 3 with a walk and two strikeouts. Brannigan (.257) went 1 for 4 with a double. CF Lonnie White Jr. (.222) continued his cold streak, going 0 for 3 with a walk, a strikeout and two groundouts.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 2-11) dropped a 4-1 decision to Daytona (Reds). 1B Juan Jerez (.217) hit a solo home run, his first, for the only Marauders run of the game. 3B Jesus Castillo (.150) and DH Jauri Custodio (.158) each singled while RF Esmerlyn Valdez (.250) doubled for the only other hits for Bradenton. RHP Carlson Reed (0-1, 2.45) gave up two runs, one unearned, on three hits, walked two and struck out eight in a loss. RHP Elijah Birdsong (0.00) did not allow a hit in a shutout inning of relief. LHP Magdiel Cotto (1.80) and RHP Landon Tompkins (4.00) each allowed one run on two hits in two innings of relief each. Cotto struck out one and Tompkins fanned four.
