Pirates president Travis Williams spends the morning at a spring training workout Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at Pirate City in Bradenton.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Entercom announced a multiyear contract extension that will keep 93.7 FM as the team’s flagship radio station and broadcast all spring training and regular-season games.

The Pirates’ radio broadcast partner since 2012 on KDKA-FM, Entercom will now air all weekday and afternoon games on sister stations KDKA News Radio 100.1 FM and 1020 KDKA-AM. Entercom also will simulcast select games, including Opening Day and the home opener across all three frequencies.

“This expanded coverage is a homecoming for us and our fans,” Pirates president Travis Williams said in a statement. “Ever since the nation’s first ever baseball game, a Pirates game versus the Philadelphia Phillies, was broadcast on KDKA in 1921, KDKA and the Pirates have been synonymous with each other.

“This agreement honors that true Pittsburgh tradition of day games on the KDKA-AM airwaves, but also that same sense of innovation from more than a century ago as we look to bring even more Pirates programming to fans across the cluster of Entercom Pittsburgh stations.”

Entercom senior vice president and market manager Michael Spacciapolli said the expanded partnership allows Entercom Pittsburgh to leverage the Pirates brand while promoting the KDKA simulcast.

“The Pirates and KDKA are part of the fabric of our city,” Spacciapolli said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be able to carry on that tradition while ushering in a new era of expanded reach of Pirates programming.”
