Dave Parker, who played 11 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates and won consecutive National League batting titles in 1977 and 1978, was one of nine players named Monday to the Hall of Fame ballot for possible election to the class of 2020.

Also included on the ballot, which will be voted upon Dec. 8 at the Baseball Winter Meetings in San Diego, are Dwight Evans, Steve Garvey, Tommy John, Don Mattingly, Thurman Munson, Dale Murphy, Ted Simmons and Lou Whitaker. In addition, Marvin Miller, who led the Major League Baseball Players Association from 1966-82, will be on the ballot.

The announcement was made by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Any candidate who receives votes on 75 percent of the ballots from the 16-member Modern Baseball Era Committee will be inducted in Cooperstown on July 26, along with any others who emerge from the 2020 Baseball Writers’ Association of America election, which will be announced Jan. 21.

Parker, a seven-time All-Star, hit .290 over 19 Major League seasons with six teams. He played for the Pirates from 1973-1983. He was National League MVP in 1978 when he hit .334, with 30 homers and 117 RBIs.

Overall, he hit 339 home runs, with 1,493 RBIs. From 1975-1980, Parker was third among all National League players in hits (1,095), second in doubles (215) and total bases (1,799), fifth in RBIs (569) and tied for eighth in home runs (131). He also led all NL outfielders in assists (86) and was third in double plays (15).
