Pirates counting on Mitch Keller to help stop eight-game losing streak
Mitch Keller will get his turn to try to stop the Pittsburgh Pirates’ eight-game losing streak when he starts against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. Game time is 10:07 p.m. at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
The Pirates’ recalled Keller from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday.
It will be the fourth start of the season for the Pirates’ top pitching prospect and their 2014 second-round draft choice. He most recently pitched for the Pirates on June 18, getting a no-decision in a 5-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers. In his three major-league starts this season, he is 0-1 with a 10.50 ERA, 15 strikeouts and 21 hits allowed in 12 innings.
In Indianapolis this season, he is 7-5 with a 3.56 ERA and 123 strikeouts in 103 2/3 innings.
To make room for Keller on the Pirates’ roster, Richard Rodriguez was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Saturday) with right shoulder inflammation.
