Pirates’ Corey Dickerson announces autism fundraising initiative
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Corey Dickerson and his wife are pledging funds to help those with autism, the team announced. Under an initiative Dickerson is launching called “Assists for Autism,” he will donate money for outfield assists across MLB.
During April, which is Autism Awareness Month, the Dickersons will donate $100 for every outfield assist in the majors to Autism Speaks. The remainder of the regular season (May through September), Dickerson will donate $1,000 for every assist by a Pirates outfielder.
The Pirates had 34 outfield assists last season (tied for second-most in MLB), and all teams averaged 128 assists combined per month in 2018.

Autism Speaks is a nonprofit that promotes solutions across the spectrum and throughout the life span of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support.
Fans can support the initiative by similarly pledging funds for each outfield assist via the Assists for Autism page. The Pirates also will be contributing to the cause through a variety of means.
Dickerson had a career-high seven assists last season in his first season for the Pirates, and he has 16 assists in his career. Dickerson was the NL’s Gold Glove left fielder in 2018.
