Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Robert Stephenson (29) in the seventh inning of a baseball game Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, in Denver.

The Pittsburgh Pirates made an addition to their bullpen, the team announced Saturday afternoon, by claiming 29-year-old righty Robert Stephenson off waivers from the Colorado Rockies.

Stephenson, 29, appeared in 45 games with the Rockies this season, going 2-1 with a 6.04 ERA in 44 2/3 innings pitched.

He was designated for assignment by Colorado Aug. 25, having allowed runs in six of his last eight appearances with the Rockies.

Stephenson was selected 27th overall by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2011 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut for the Reds early into the 2016 season, playing with the team through 2020 before joining the Rockies ahead of the 2021 season.

Stephenson is 14-15 with a 4.97 ERA over 198 appearances, which includes 22 starts.

To make room for Stephenson on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated infielder Kevin Padlo for assignment.

A corresponding move will be made on the 26-man active roster upon Stephenson’s joining of the team.

He will wear No. 41 for the Pirates.
