Pirates call up Yerry De Los Santos and Roansy Contreras
The Pittsburgh Pirates are calling up Triple-A pitcher Yerry De Los Santos in hopes of supporting a struggling staff. The news first was reported by MLB Insider Hector Gomez and confirmed by the Tribune-Review.
The Pirates are 1-5 in the past seven days, losing three of those games by scores of 9-0, 7-0 and 18-4.

In addition, pitcher Roansy Contreras will be recalled to Pittsburgh, Gomez and other media outlets are reporting.
De Los Santos, 24, never has pitched in the majors, but he has performed well for Indianapolis this season. In 12 games and 15 2/3 innings, the native of the Dominican Republic is 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA and 0.638 WHIP while striking out 20, allowing eight hits and three runs and walking two batters.

Contreras, 22, originally was called up from Indianapolis on April 9 when Duane Underwood Jr. was placed on the injured list. He appeared in three games and 7 2/3 innings — all in relief — while allowing four hits, three runs, three walks and 10 strikeouts.
He was optioned back to Indianapolis on April 21. In his five starts there, he had an 0-1 record, 2.66 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 11 walks and 24 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings.
Contreras started one game for the Pirates last season, working three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
