Pirates adjust plans for 2022 home opener
After failing to reach a new collective bargaining agreement, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday announced the cancellation of the first two series of the regular season.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are now tentatively scheduled to open the season April 7 with a four-game series at the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Pirates are scheduled to play their home opener at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, the promotional Pup Night at PNC Park.
The Pirates’ original Opening Day was scheduled for March 31 against the Cardinals, which would have doubled as the home opener. The three-game series with the Cardinals and a three-game series at the Cincinnati Reds (April 4-6) were canceled.
In a letter to season-ticket holders, the Pirates said fans who have tickets for the original opener can use those tickets for the April 12 game. Tickets for the April 2, 3 and 12 games will now be credited as a ticket value onto the season-ticket holder’s MY TIX account.
