The Pittsburgh Pirates made a series of roster moves ahead of Friday’s series-opening road game against the Chicago White Sox, reinstating pitchers Marco Gonzales and David Bednar from the injured list.

The left-handed Gonzales will start Friday and make his first appearance since mid-April.

Gonzales, 32, had been sidelined with a left forearm muscle strain, resulting in placement on the 60-day injured list.

In three starts earlier this season prior to his injury, he posted a 2.65 ERA over 17 innings.

Bednar returns to the fold after recovering from a left oblique strain that landed him on the 15-day injured list.

The right-handed closer and two-time All-Star is 3-3 with a 5.17 ERA this season, recording 16 saves in 19 tries through 31 1/3 innings.

In corresponding transactions, the Pirates designated righty Brent Honeywell Jr. for assignment and optioned right-hander Ryder Ryan to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Honeywell had his contract selected by the Pirates on July 7 and made two appearances for the club.

Ryan, 29, continues to be shuffled between Triple-A and Pittsburgh as Friday marks the fifth time he’s been optioned down to the Indians.

He is 1-0 with a 5.29 ERA in 14 games and 18 innings with the Pirates this season.
