The Pittsburgh Pirates activated catcher Joey Bart from the 10-day injured list Sunday morning ahead of their series finale in Atlanta vs. the Braves.
To make room for Bart on the 26-man roster, fellow catcher Jason Delay was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Bart, 27, had been sidelined since the end of May with a left thumb sprain.
Acquired from the San Francisco Giants in a trade in early April, Bart appeared in 22 games for the Pirates before his injury, batting .267 with four homers and 12 RBIs.
During a recent rehab assignment with the Indians, Bart went 6 for 17 with four RBIs in six games.
Moving forward, he can be expected to split catching duties with veteran Yasmani Grandal.
As for Delay, his 2024 campaign had been severely limited because of a knee injury in April that required surgery.
In seven games with the Pirates, pre- and post-injury, Delay batted .200 with six RBIs and three doubles.
