Bryan Reynolds and Bailey Falter are back with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Jack Suwinski is headed back to the minors.
The Pirates made multiple roster moves Monday before the start of their three-game series at the Houston Astros.
They should get an offensive boost from Reynolds, who was activated from the MLB bereavement list. The All-Star outfielder is slashing .288/.353/.485 with 20 doubles, 18 home runs and 61 RBIs. Reynolds started in left field Monday night.
And the addition of the left-handed Falter, who is 4-7 with a 4.08 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 90 1/3 innings over 17 starts, adds depth to the starting rotation. Falter was reinstated from the 15-day injured list with triceps tendinitis after ending his rehabilitation assignment. He is expected to start Tuesday night.
The biggest move, however, might be the subtraction of Suwinski, who was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. The lefty-hitting outfielder has struggled at the plate this season, batting .182 with eight doubles, nine homers and 26 RBIs in 88 games.
