With the softball program seeing a spike in success since her entrance in 2017, Colgate wants to keep coach Marissa Lamison-Myers around for a while longer.

Lamison-Myers, a Penn-Trafford graduate, had her contract extended through 2026.

Colgate went from six conference wins in 2018, to eight in ’19, to a program-record 13 in ’21.

The Raiders reached the Patriot League Tournament for the second straight year.

“The most important thing for me is being able to see this through,” the coach said. “It’s an absolute privilege to work with our incredible student-athletes. It’s such an amazing institution and I am proud of the program that our student-athletes and staff have built over the course of my five years here. Their commitment to competitive excellence on the field and in the classroom is what makes this such an honor.”

A former standout catcher, Lamison-Myers is the daughter of Pitt-Greensburg softball coach Chuck Myers. She coached with the Pittsburgh Predators travel organization for 10 years and was an assistant at Penn-Trafford in 2011.

She was an assistant for four years at Bucknell after two thrilling seasons at Division III Tufts (Mass.), where she helped the team to a national championship and a national runner-up finish.

Colgate hadn’t posted a winning season since 2011 when Lamison-Myers, who played at Clarion, took over.

Now, the Raiders will be going after three straight winning seasons.

Colgate won 25 games in 2019 and led the Patriot League with 31 home runs.

In 2020 when the season was shortened to 20 games, the Raiders went 12-8.

She is 64-82-1 in four seasons, including a 27-31-1 mark in conference.

“Marissa has done a fantastic job elevating our program significantly over her early tenure,” Colgate athletic director Nicki Moore said. “She has hired and developed excellent assistant coaches, and she has led the way in recruiting smart, resilient, engaged, competitive and passionate student-athlete leaders to Colgate.

“I have been inspired by Marissa’s drive, by her commitment to grow and continue developing as a coach and as a leader, and by her belief in the kind of program Colgate softball can become.”
