Penguins to start goaltender Tristan Jarry against Rangers
The Penguins are slated to start goaltender Tristan Jarry in Tuesday’s home game against the New York Rangers at PPG Paints Arena.
Head coach Mike Sullivan announced Jarry’s status following Tuesday’s morning skate.
In 52 games this season, Jarry has a 33-13-6 record, a 2.31 goals against average, a .922 save percentage and four shutouts.
Jarry was in net for the Penguins’ 5-1 road loss to the Rangers on Friday. In that contest, he made 25 saves on 30 shots and recorded the loss.
Notes:
The Penguins’ lines and pairings during Tuesday’s morning skate were:
59 Jake Guentzel - 87 Sidney Crosby - 9 Evan Rodrigues
67 Rickard Rakell - 71 Evgeni Malkin - 17 Bryan Rust
43 Danton Heinen - 77 Jeff Carter - 42 Kasperi Kapanen
11 Brian Boyle - 53 Teddy Blueger - 67 Radim Zohorna
8 Brian Dumoulin - 58 Kris Letang
5 Mike Matheson - 6 John Marino
28 Marcus Pettersson - 2 Chad Ruhwedel
• The top power play unit included Crosby, Guentzel, Letang, Malkin and Rust. The second power-play unit involved Carter, Heinen, Kapanen, Matheson and Rakell.
• Injured Penguins forward Jason Zucker participated in the morning skate in a full capacity for the first time since he underwent surgery for a core muscle injury in late January. He skated on a “fourth” defensive pairing alongside defenseman Mark Friedman. Prior to practice, Zucker worked on the ice with skating and skills development coach Ty Hennes for approximately 40 minutes.
Sullivan labeled Zucker’s presence in the morning skate as “a significant step in the process” of his recovery.
Should Zucker participate in a full capacity in Wednesday’s practice, he could potentially be cleared to play in Thursday’s road game against his former team, the Minnesota Wild. That would be Zucker’s first game against the Wild since that franchise traded him to the Penguins in February of 2020.
• The Rangers are expected to start goaltender Igor Shesterkin. In 43 game this season, Shesterkin has a 31-9-3 record, a 2.11 goals against average, a .936 save percentage and three shutouts.
• Rangers forward Ryan Strome will miss the game due an undisclosed injury.
