Penguins to start goaltender Tristan Jarry against Lightning
The Penguins are expected to start goaltender Tristan Jarry for Tuesday’s home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at PPG Paints Arena.
Coach Mike Sullivan announced Jarry’s status following an optional morning skate.
This season, Jarry has appeared in four games and has a 3-0-1 record, a 1.47 goals against average and a .943 save percentage.
In the first game of the NHL’s season on Oct. 12, Jarry made 26 saves on 28 shots in a 6-2 road win against the Lightning.
Notes:
• According to Sullivan, forward Jeff Carter continues to be asymptomatic as he remains in isolation following a positive test for covid-19. Defenseman Kris Letang is symptomatic, however.
Both players were officially placed on the NHL’s list for covid-19 protocol on Monday.
• Sullivan indicated forward Sidney Crosby remains sidelined as he recovers from offseason surgery to his left wrist. In recent days, Crosby has been increasingly involved in practices as well as morning skates and appears close to making his return to the lineup.
• A total of 13 players participated in the optional morning skate, including forwards Kasper Bjorkqvist, Teddy Blueger, Brian Boyle, Crosby, Sam Lafferty, Drew O’Connor and Dominik Simon; defensemen Mark Friedman, Marcus Pettersson, Juuso Riikola and Chad Ruhwedel; and goaltenders Casey DeSmith and Jarry.
• After traveling from Buffalo following a 5-1 road loss to the Sabres on Monday, the Lightning did not have a morning skate.
• Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy is expected to start for the Lightning. In five games this season, he has a 2-2-1 record, a 3.12 goals against average and an .893 save percentage. He made 29 saves on 32 shots against the Penguins on Oct. 12.
