The Penguins are scheduled to start goaltender Tristan Jarry for Thursday’s road game against the rival Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena in Washington.
Coach Mike Sullivan announced Jarry’s status via video conference Thursday morning.
In 34 games this season, Jarry has a 21-9-3 record, along with a 2.71 goals against average, a .911 save percentage and one shutout.
In four games against the Capitals this season, Jarry has a 2-2-0 record, a 2.77 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
Notes:
• Sullivan termed the remainder of his lineup as a “game-time decision” when asked about the statuses of injured forwards Frederick Gaudreau, Evgeni Malkin and Brandon Tanev.
Gaudreau appears to be the most likely of that trio to potentially play Thursday. He skated on the fourth line in a full-contact capacity during practice in Cranberry on Wednesday.
An undisclosed ailment has sidelined Gaudreau for the past eight games.
Malkin is currently on long-term injured reserve due to a suspected right knee injury that has sidelined him for the past 21 games.
Tanev continues to skate with members of the taxi squad. Also assigned to long-term injured reserve, Tanev has been absent for the past 12 games because of an undisclosed injury.
All three players participated in an optional morning skate.
• The Penguins can clinch a playoff berth with a win as well as a regulation loss by the New York Rangers, who host the New York Islanders on Thursday.
• The Capitals will be without their most prominent player, forward Alex Ovechkin. He will miss his third consecutive game due to an undisclosed injury.
• Washington’s top defenseman, John Carlson, has been termed as a “game-time decision.” He did not participate in the team’s morning skate.
• Former Penguins defenseman Justin Schultz is expected to return to the Capitals’ lineup after missing the past three games due to an undisclosed ailment.
• The Capitals are scheduled to start rookie goaltender Vitek Vanecek. In 32 games this season, Vanecek has an 18-9-3 record along with a 2.68 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and two shutouts.
In five games this season against the Penguins, Vanecek has a 2-1-2 record, along with a 2.98 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.
• The Capitals can clinch a playoff berth with a victory as well as any kind of win by the Islanders. Washington can also secure a playoff berth if they gain a point and the Islanders defeat the Rangers in regulation.
Follow the Penguins all season long.
