Penguins to start goaltender Casey DeSmith in rematch with Bruins
The Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled to start goaltender Casey DeSmith in Thursday’s home game against the Boston Bruins at PPG Paints Arena.
In 22 games this season, DeSmith has an 8-5-5 record, a 2.89 goals-against average, a .907 save percentage and two shutouts.
DeSmith was in net during Saturday’s 2-1 road loss to the Bruins at TD Garden. In that contest, DeSmith made 27 saves on 29 shots.
Notes:
• The Penguins had an optional skate Thursday morning. In addition to DeSmith, those who participated included defensemen Nathan Beaulieu, Mark Friedman, Marcus Pettersson and Chad Ruhwedel; forwards Teddy Blueger, Kasperi Kapanen and Rickard Rakell and goaltender Louis Domingue.
• Penguins forward Danton Heinen enters the game with a season-best three-game goal-scoring streak.
• The Bruins are expected to start goaltender Jeremy Swayman. In 38 games this season, Swayman has a 22-12-3 record, a 2.33 GAA, a .916 save percentage and three shutouts.
During Saturday’s game, Swayman stopped 23 of 24 shots.
