Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith is scheduled to start Saturday’s home game against the Anaheim Ducks at PPG Paints Arena.

In five games this season, DeSmith has a 1-3-1 record along with a 3.64 goals against average and an .885 save percentage.

DeSmith recorded his first win of the season on Monday in a 6-1 road win against the Seattle Kraken. He made 28 saves on 29 shots in that contest.

“It gives him a big boost of confidence,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said via video conference on Saturday. “We felt strongly that his game was trending the right way. He’s working extremely hard in practice. That was an important start for Casey in Seattle. He had a real strong game for us. He made a couple big saves there in the middle of the game to allow us to keep the lead. My hope is that is something he can build on for sure. I know he feels good about that game. It certainly gives him a boost of confidence moving forward.”

Notes:

• After Friday’s 4-2 road win against the Washington Capitals on Friday, the Penguins did not hold a morning skate on Saturday.

• Penguins forwards Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, goaltender Tristan Jarry and defenseman Kris Letang were named to the NHL’s ballot for the All-Star game. Fans can vote for captains of the league’s four divisions with one player from each division being selected through this process.
