The Penguins formally announced they will open training camp on Jan. 3 at PPG Paints Arena.

On Sunday, the NHL and the NHL’s Players’ Association (NHLPA) announced the 2020-21 season will begin Jan. 13.

The Penguins will have the league maximum of 36 skaters (forwards and defensemen) as well as an unlimited number of goaltenders.

No preseason games will be played.

The Penguins’ release deferred to state and local authorities as far as fans being permitted to attend games.

A full schedule, with 56 games for each team, is expected to be released later this week.
