Penguins swap AHL goalies with Florida, gain 7th-round pick in '25 for Magnus Hellberg
Roughly 15 minutes before the NHL trade deadline Friday, the Pittsburgh Penguins shipped goaltender Magnus Hellberg to the Florida Panthers in exchange for fellow goalie Ludovic Waeber and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2025.
Waeber, 27, made 15 appearances with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League this season, going 6-6 with a 3.09 goals-against average and .887 save percentage.
He carries a cap hit of $950,000 and was signed to a one-year deal by Florida last summer.

Waeber also made one ECHL appearance this season with the Florida Everblades.
A native of Fribourg, Switzerland, Waeber previously played parts of six seasons in the National League, Switzerland’s top professional level, for the ZSC Lions and HC Fribourg-Gottéron.
From 2020-23 with the Lions, he went a combined 46-35-3 with a 2.41 goals-against average.
The 32-year-old Hellberg joined the Penguins on a one-year deal worth $785,000 this past summer.
He made three appearances with Pittsburgh, going 1-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average while spending the majority of his time with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
In the AHL, Hellberg has gone 9-8-2 with a 2.92 goals-against average and .905 save percentage.
Earlier Friday, the Penguins also traded defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to the New York Rangers.
Winger Jake Guentzel was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.
