Defenseman Yannick Weber had spent parts of 12 seasons in the NHL.

The Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday signed defenseman Yannick Weber to a one-year deal worth $700,000, the NHL’s minimum salary.

He must clear waivers by noon Thursday to formally join the team.

Weber joins a team that has been besieged by injuries, particularly on the blue line.

The 32-year-old has spent parts of 12 seasons in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators.

A native of Switzerland, the right-handed Weber appeared in 41 games with the Nashville Predators last season and scored three points (one goal, two assists). Weber (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) attended Predators training camp this month on a tryout basis but was released Jan. 13.

With Weber signed, the team placed Riikola and forward Evan Rodirgues (undisclosed) on injured reserve. They join Matheson and Trotman with that designation.
