Penguins sign forward prospect Tanner Howe
The Pittsburgh Penguins signed a member of their 2024 draft class Wednesday, agreeing to a three-year entry-level contract with forward Tanner Howe.
A second-round pick (No. 46 overall) in last month’s NHL Draft, Howe served as captain of the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League last season. In 68 WHL games, the 18-year-old left-hander led that team in scoring with 77 points (28 goals, 49 assists) and was second on the squad with 77 penalty minutes.

According to Puckpedia, Howe will have a salary cap hit of $875,000.
While Howe (5-foot-10, 183 pounds) is under contract, he is likely to return to Regina for the 2024-25 season and could play there again in 2025-26. As such, his contract can “slide” — or wait to begin — until his first professional season.
Howe is the first member of the Penguins’ 2024 draft class to sign a contract.
