Former Calgary Flames center Mark Jankowski signed a one-year deal with the Penguins on Friday.

The Pittsburgh Penguins signed former Calgary Flames forward Mark Jankowski to a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $700,000.

Jankowski, 26, appeared in 56 games last season and scored seven points (two goals, five assists).

Averaging 11 minutes, 6 seconds of ice time in 2019-20, Jankowski primarily has been used as a bottom-six center. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 212 pounds, Jankowski was second among all Flames forwards in short-handed ice time in 2019-20 at an average of 2:02 per game.

A native of Hamilton, Ont., Jankowski just completed a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1.675 million. Scheduled to become a restricted free agent, he did not receive a qualifying offer from the Flames and was allowed to become an unrestricted free agent.

A first-round pick (No. 21 overall) in 2012, he has spent his entire four-year NHL career as a member of the Flames. His best season came in 2018-19 when he established career highs for games (79) and points (32).

Jankowski’s great uncle is former Penguins coach Red Kelly, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
