In 59 games this season, Penguins forward Sidney Crosby leads the team with 72 points (26 goals, 42 assists).

Penguins forwards Sidney Crosby, Radim Zohorna and defenseman John Marino did not play in Thursday’s road game against the New York Rangers due to undisclosed illnesses.

The team announced their statuses via Twitter prior to the game. Aside from noting they are not dealing with covid-19, the team did not specify the nature of their ailments.

In recent weeks, the Penguins have had a handful of players miss games and practices due to illness. Forward Evgeni Malkin was a late scratch due to an illness for a 5-1 road loss to the Rangers on March 29.

Crosby has appeared in 59 games this season and has a team-leading 72 points (26 goals, 42 assists) while averaging 19:52 of ice time per contest.

Marino is one of two players who had appeared in all of the Penguins’ first 71 games of the season along with forward Evan Rodrigues. The right-handed defenseman has 24 points (one goal, 23 assists) this season and an average of 20:43 of ice time per contest.

Zohorna, a rookie, has appeared in 17 games this season and has scored six points (two goals, four assists) while clocking an average of 10:20 of ice time per contest.

Their absences allowed rookie forward Filip Hallander to make his NHL debut. A second-round pick (No. 58 overall) in 2018, Hallander was summoned to the NHL roster Thursday under emergency conditions.

A native of Sweden, he is in the midst of his first season in North America. With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, Hallander has played in 53 and scored 24 points (10 goals, 24 assists).
