In 53 AHL games this season, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Filip Hallander has 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists).

The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned forward Filip Hallander to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Saturday.

That transaction took place immediately after Hallander participated in warmups for the Penguins’ home game against the Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena.

Hallander was recalled to the NHL roster Thursday under emergency conditions prior to a 3-0 road loss to the New York Rangers. With forwards Sidney Crosby, Radim Zohorna and defenseman John Marino sidelined for that game because of undisclosed illnesses, Hallander was summoned to the NHL roster and made his NHL debut that night.

In that contest, Hallander was primarily used on the fourth line and logged 5 minutes, 52 seconds of ice time on six shifts.

Emergency recalls are permitted when an NHL club is unable to dress a standard lineup of 12 forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders.

With Crosby in the lineup for Saturday’s game, Hallander had to be returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, per NHL rules.

Hallander, 21, was a second-round pick (No. 58 overall) in 2018. In 53 AHL games this season, Hallander has 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists).

Note: In addition to Crosby, Marino and forward Jason Zucker each returned to the lineup for Saturday’s game. Zucker had missed the team’s previous three games after he presumably aggravated a previous core muscle injury.
