Penguins recall Sam Lafferty from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
The Penguins have recalled rookie forward Sam Lafferty from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis.
The precise reason for his recall is not known but veteran forward Jared McCann did not participate in the team’s practice in El Segundo, Calif. on Tuesday. Coach Mike Sullivan did not offer a reason for McCann’s absence when he spoke with reporters on Tuesday.
Lafferty and fellow rookie forward Anthony Angello were assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Monday following the acquisitions of forwards Patrick Marleau, Evan Rodrigues and Conor Sheary via trades.
This is the fourth recall for Lafferty this season. In 46 NHL games this season, Lafferty, 24, has 13 points (six goals, seven assists).
A native of Hollidaysburg, Lafferty has appeared in six AHL games this season and has three goals.
The Penguins are scheduled to face the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center on Wednesday.
