Penguins recall forwards Josh Currie, Drew O'Connor
The Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday recalled forwards Josh Currie and Drew O’Connor from their taxi squad.
Additionally, defenseman P.O Joseph was assigned from the NHL roster to the taxi squad, and forward Frederick Gaudreau was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League to the taxi squad.
These transactions were made after forward Sidney Crosby was ruled out for Tuesday’s game as a result of being placed on the NHL’s list of absences related to covid-19 protocol.
Currie, 28, has yet to play an NHL game this season. In three AHL games this season, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton captain has two goals. He is signed to a one-year two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $700,000.
O’Connor, a 22-year-old rookie, has played in nine NHL games this season and has one assist. He is in the first year of a two-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $925,000.
The 21-year-old Joseph, also a rookie, has appeared in 16 NHL games this season and has five points. He is in the second year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $863,333.
Gaudreau, 27, has yet to play in any NHL games this season. In four AHL games, he has three points (one goal, two assists). He is signed to a one-year two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $700,000.
The Penguins’ taxi squad now includes Gaudreau, Joseph, goaltender Emil Larmi and defenseman Yannick Weber.
