The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Sam Poulin from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) Thursday morning in advance of their regular season finale, a home contest against the Washington Capitals.
No announcement has been made by the team but the transaction was reflected on the NHL’s media website as well as the AHL’s website.
A first-round pick (No. 21 overall) in 2019, Poulin has spent most of the 2024-25 season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In 56 AHL games, he has set career highs in that league with 19 goals, 24 assists and 43 points while seeing ample time on both wings.
Poulin, 24, appeared in six games for the NHL club in November, recording a single assist while averaging 10:06 of ice time per contest.
A left-handed shot, Poulin is in the first year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
The Penguins recalled Poulin while veteran forward Kevin Hayes is hobbled with an undisclosed injury that has kept him off the ice for practice the previous two days as well as an optional morning skate on Thursday. Coach Mike Sullivan labeled Hayes as a game-time decision during the morning skate.
